Gregory Stanley Nield, 30, of Summerland has been in jail for 32 days after being charged with aggravated assault against a doctor at Penticton Regional Hospital.
According to information given to the court today he has selected Jeff Campbell, a prominent Vancouver lawyer, to represent him in further proceedings.
Nield was sent to a facility in Coquitlam and court was told his psychiatric review is not yet complete.
Nield appeared via a video link.

Judge Gale Sinclair ordered a psychiatric assessment for Gregory Stanley Nield, and for him to be held for a a month at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Coquitlam.
“On Friday December 5th one of our physicians was involved in a serious incident while providing care to a patient in the Psychiatric Department at Penticton Regional Hospital. Staff took immediate action to respond to this incident and to focus their efforts on securing the safety of patients, requesting the assistance of the RCMP and providing medical care to our physician.
The patient involved was taken into police custody. The name of the doctor was not officially released.
