Joseph and Mary travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem for the census, and Jesus is born there and laid in a manger.
Angels proclaim him a savior for all people, and shepherds come to adore him. In the Matthew account, astronomers (three wise men) follow a star to Bethlehem to bring gifts to Jesus, born the King of the Jews.
The main religious celebration among members of the Catholic Church and other Christian groups is the Church service on Christmas Eve or on the morning of Christmas Day.

Luke 2
Mary brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
There were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
The angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
“Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
