9km west of Keremeos

The slide yesterday closed the highway in both directions approximately 9 km west of Keremeos. The alternate route (logging road) was also not accessible due to icy conditions.This prevented our bus from transporting the students in the Hedley area home.
As per protocol, the bus returned the students back to the school. 42 students from Cawston Primary and SESS were impacted and unable to get home. The school made arrangements for students to stay with local families to house them overnight. Every child was attended to.

Parents are coming in through Summerland today to pick their children up. While waiting for their arrival the students will be receiving a hot lunch from the cafeteria.

Staff from SESS and Cawston Primary did a fantastic job of dealing with the emergency situation and the communities of Cawston and Keremeos opened their hearts and homes to our kids.
