Council decided to move forward into the new year with Local Government Leadership Academy training for elected officials – January 20-22 in Kelowna.
Council agreed to place $9000 in the 2015 budget (for discussion) on a Strategic Planning session and report by an outside consultant/facilitator. Council made it clear that no decision has been made on an expenditure but the motion allows further considerations during the discussions on a General Budget in January. Staff also requested to bring forward concrete proposals and defined cost estimates to aide council in the decision making.
Council will fund the construction cost of $40,000 for a cinder block – dog pound on its works yard property. The funds will be recovered over time by renting half of the space to the RDOS Area C.
Council heard a progress report on two linear parks near SOSS – one south of Fairview Rd. and the other east of Gala Street. Staff were instructed to proceed to a request for proposals as the money has been budgeted from reserves.
An application to the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) was authorized but a letter to be written indicating that council by this decision was not agreeing or disagreeing with the land owner’s application. The property located at 1015 Fairview Rd. An application, similar in nature, was rejected by the ALC in 2010.
Council appointments – Mayor Ron Hovanes, Municipal Director RDOS – Alternate Maureen Doerr.
Appointed to the Okanagan Regional Library Board: Maureen Doerr – Alternate Jack Bennest. Both of these appointments covered by Provincial Legislation allowing external voting on money matters.
Other council appointments will wait until the new year.
