The Oliver Community Theatre Society is pleased to announce the upcoming visit of Princess Margaret High School Horseshoe Theatre who will be presenting their production of the musical Footloose at The Frank Venables Theatre, Oliver, on Wednesday, December 10 at 7:00 pm.
Footloose is based on the movie of the same name which starred Kevin Bacon in his break out role. It is directed and musical directed by Lori Grant, who will be familiar to South Okanagan audiences for her outstanding work at Princess Margaret High School and as the long time musical director of The Follies onboard the S.S. Sicamous in Penticton. The Horseshoe Theatre is the talented, high energy musical theatre ensemble assembled from the music, art and theatre students at Princess Margaret Secondary School.
Frank Venables Theatre Interim Manager, Glen Cairns, stated “I am very pleased that Lori has chosen to bring this outstanding high school production to The Frank Venables and I hope that it is just the first of many visits from other schools around the valley and province. The Venables is one of the most beautiful and best equipped theatres outside of the lower mainland and it is my sincere hope that in addition to presenting adult and touring shows, The Frank Venables Theatre becomes the centre for youth music and drama in The South Okanagan.
Local schools and children are assured first access to the facility through an agreement with School District 53, and the people of Oliver who have shown such strong support of the building and operations of the theatre can be very proud of their achievements in creating this wonderful cultural facility. It is my sincere hope that in addition to being a cultural asset for the people of Oliver, their friends, families and visitors, that we can also develop a new and healthy revenue stream by providing services to visiting youth and families from school districts who do not have access to this kind of state of the art facility. Just as youth sports teams come to town for games and tournaments, this is an opportunity for youth and families to learn, grow and build relationships through the arts. In addition to the personal, family and community benefits, the economic spin offs of these kinds of school exchanges spread from the theatre to main street and beyond.”
All seats are $10 at the door. Doors open at 6:00 pm and showtime is 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 10 at The Frank Venables Theatre, 6100 Gala Street, Oliver. See you at the show.
