“We evacuated the home at 225 Windsor and the neighbours surrounding them,” said RCMP Sgt. Kurt Lozinski.
“We secured off the residence and acquired the appropriate search warrants.”
Lozinski said the bomb disposal unit arrived on the morning of June 6th and “disposed of any other dangerous materials in the home.”
The Penticton man responsible for making an explosive device that went off in his neighbourhood was sentenced today.
38 year old Matthew Nason was given a $1,000 fine for a charge of making or possessing explosives, and a suspended sentence – three years probation for storage of firearms contrary to regulation.
According to Crown Counsel John Swanson, Nason was playing around with information he found on the Internet on how you can make explosives.
Nason put some explosive material in a pipe, but subsequently thought that the pipe was empty after he took it outside and it didn’t go off properly.
Nason was also given a firearms prohibition for 10 years.
