Hello Boundary – Similkameen,
Great news this week from BC Parks and the Ministry of Environment. As we know, during the existing facility upgrades at Haynes Point Provincial Park, archaeological remains were discovered on April 29, 2014. The campground and trails at Haynes Point closed October 1st, allowing for the archaeological assessment to take place. This archaeological field work has recently been completed.
Since the closure, my office received many letters recognizing the significance of the cultural findings while understandably having some reservations about discontinued access to the walking trails. Your letters, sent through my constituency office, brought these concerns directly to Minister of Environment Mary Polak.
Pedestrians and cyclists are now allowed on the paved roads at Haynes Point Park while the Province and the Osoyoos Indian band review the assessment and discuss the future direction of the park.
Thank you for voicing your concerns to my office.
