Penticton Herald editorial – two months ago
“The latest rumour (and I stress this is 100 per cent rumour) is that Penticton Mayor Garry Litke will not seek re-election and instead toss his support behind Andrew Jakubeit. I originally thought “no way” but Jakubeit all of a sudden became concerned about the hotel and travel expenses to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities convention……
John Vassilaki, the longest-running member of council, is expected to run for mayor setting the stage for a Jakubeit versus Vassilaki race. Jakubeit apparently won’t run should Litke choose to seek re-election.” – James Miller
Since this – both Jakubeit and Vassilaki have announced their intentions with the present Mayor set to let the public know of his intentions.
Couple of weeks ago on Oliver Daily News:
Penticton will get a new mayor this fall
Mayor Garry Litke won’t seek re-election – he has not made it official yet.
Councillor Andrew Jakubeit will challenge Councillor John Vassalaki for the top civic seat.
“This election is not about age – Young vs Old, it’s not about choosing the best of the worst. It is about who you believe can inspire, rebuild trust, get the silos that exist to start working together more, empower, and motivate – we need true leadership – something to believe in – something to work towards – having a vision of what our future can and should be…and a willingness to be BOLD.” – Andrew Jakubeit
Councillors Katie Robinson, Judy Sentes and Helena Konanz will run again. This leaves three seats open.
