Summary of consultation on ALC Act – regulations now online

VICTORIA – The Ministry of Agriculture published a summary document today
on the recently completed consultation on potential changes to
regulations within the Agricultural Land Commission Act (ALCA).

The document, at https://engage.gov.bc.ca/landreserve/, provides a summary of the feedback government received on the questions that formed the core of the ministry’s consultation on potential changes to regulations under the ALCA. Ministry staff, accompanied by representatives from the Agricultural Land Commission, met with more than 100 organizations representing the agricultural community and local government from throughout the province to hear their feedback and ideas. In addition to the face-to-face stakeholder consultation that took place in seven communities, more than 1,600 British Columbians participated in the on-line consultation process or made written submissions. In the coming months government will review the findings of the consultation and determine whether existing regulations should be revised, or if new regulations should be developed. The Agricultural Land Commission Act protects farmland in British Columbia, while helping farmers grow their businesses and continue to produce food on their land.
