October 21, 1943 – September 18, 2014
On Thursday September 18th, Joseph Kirs passed away peacefully at the South Okanagan General Hospital with family by his side at the age of 70 years.
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Rose as well as his brother Andrew.
Joe will be sadly missed by his loving wife Eva; children, Shelley, Ann (Tom) and Michael (Jocelyn); grandchildren Adain, Ashley, Shawn, Lane and Chase as well as his sisters Margaret (Dave), Dorothy (Gerry) and Elsie; sisters-in-law Liz, and Mary; brother-in-law Bill and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Joe was born in Whitewood Saskatchewan in 1943, moved with his family to Oliver in 1946 and graduated from S.O.H.S. in 1963.
Joe and Eva married on March 30, 1968 and together raised three children.
Over the years Joe worked for Bleasdale Ford, Sun Rype, Malmberg & Sons Trucking and Rotheisler Equipment, but ultimately his passion was farming which he enjoyed until his passing.
His memberships included The Royal Canadian Legion and the Oliver Fire Protection District for over forty years, Okanagan Hungarian Club and the Oliver Sportsmen Association.
Joe loved fishing (especially Clifford Lake), camping, hunting, teaching his grandchildren and spending time with family.
He will be fondly remembered for his kind heart, good nature, sense of humour and helping hands.
Funeral service will be held on Friday September 26th at 10:30 a.m. at the Oliver United Church. Interment will follow in the Oliver cemetery with a reception afterwards in the Legion hall.
