There seems to be a proliferation of motorized vehicles on the hike and bike trail the last few weeks.
Some of these riders claim that they have the right to ride their dirt bikes and ATVs along the dike.
This sign which greets walkers and cyclists as they approach the path going north and south from Fairview Ave town bridge.
The second icon from the right suggests no motorized vehicles are allowed. The other icons have been obliterated except for the circle to the right which is anyone’s guess.
This sign states that “the trail is funded by federal, provincial, municipal governments, service clubs and individual contributors”.
So…whose responsibility is it to enforce the motorized vehicle prohibition? The town of Oliver? RDOS? Parks and Rec? Ministry of the Environment? RCMP?
If a walker, cyclist or child is injured by an unlicensed motorized vehicle racing along the hike and bike trail who is responsible?
There are numerous “no camping” signs along the path yet most mornings there are tents in Lions Park or next to the river. When the sleeping bags are gone the garbage and toilet paper remains.
Could someone from the town please clarify the bylaw situation? Do we have bylaw officers? How many? What are their hours? Who are they accountable to? How do we contact them?
We are so lucky to have this hike and bike trail. It is a shame to see it abused.
