If you’ve ever lost a loved one, you know that grief isn’t short-term, isn’t neat, definitely isn’t easy. It can hit you like a truck at the most unexpected times, can last much longer than others expect, can make the daily tasks of living feel too heavy and difficult; nearly impossible. Though the stages of grief are well travelled by many, we all travel that journey in our way and in our own time.
But, you are not alone.
Grief is a process that is easier to bear with support. For this reason, Desert Valley Hospice Society is pleased to now offer highly-trained volunteers for one-on-one bereavement support. This free of charge program is available in Oliver and Osoyoos.
The emotional support includes listening in a non-judgemental way, helping you understand your grief, and being a companion on your journey. Available as a drop in service twice a week or by appointment, bereavement support is available to anyone who feels they might benefit from a listening, supportive ear.
Trained volunteers will be available for drop in support at South Okanagan General Hospital’s Quiet Room on Tuesdays between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m., or to the Desert Valley Hospice Society’s new Supportive Care Centre in Osoyoos 22 Jonagold Place, just one block off Main Street, on Thursdays between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. Programs begin September 30th in Oliver and October 2nd in Osoyoos.
If you prefer to make an appointment, please call South Okanagan General Hospital’s Co-ordinator of Volunteers at 250-498-5026, or DVHS’ Program Director Lois Brummet at 250-498-9050 or email lb9055@telus.net
