
1. Re-branding – directors were shown the work of graphic designer Mary Fry who presented several options on a new design with a general direction given to establish artwork that works for all concerned.
2. Key-card system for weight room – director were told of the many problems associated with a metal key system where each person who uses the weight room is given a key. It was recommended that a new system be installed as soon as possible for maximum control on who is using the facility at all hours of the day. With sufficient resources in place – directors directed staff to proceed with this $10,000 item.
3. Roof repairs to east side of arena – this space houses the ice-cleaner and is in need of repairs according to staff. This work will proceed as soon as possible this fall.
4. Budget decisions – Revised budget will now be submitted to the Town of Oliver municipal director and RDOS C director. This budget has a 0% increase in operations but require a 3.2% increase in tax requisition for capital projects: Upgrades to skate park, shade structure for Community Stage, improvements to weight room, irrigation upgrades and many other small capital expenditures.
5. Oliver Community Arts Council – letter – OCAC outlined to the board how grants from the BC Arts council are directly related to how municipal/regional/community funding is made. Each year the joint service (OPRS) grants $4000 to the arts council which is matched by the province.
6. Presentation on Frank Venables Theatre – Representatives of the Theatre Society informed the board on what is happening now and the need for a successful referendum vote for professional management to be held in November.
7. Showers in arena for pickers and travelers – The Parks department will allow showering in the arena 12-1 pm for the remainder of September. Discussion ensued as to the use of parks facilities for this purpose. Staff will contact the Town, IHA and representatives of the farm community with a message – a facility is needed in Oliver for showers.
