Deal struck at 3:50 am
Premier Christy Clark was promising six years of labour stability with teachers as a result of the tentative deal
Sources tell CBC News the pay increases are in line with other public sector workers and are expected to include some kind of signing bonus. The settlement is also said to include grievances arising from the government’s court case over the removal of class size and composition from a previous collective agreement.
Once the details of the deal are finalized by the bargaining teams, the province’s 41,000 public school teachers will also have to vote on it before classes can resume.
A ratification vote has not yet been announced, but BCTF spokeswoman Nancy Knickerbocker tweeted that teachers could vote on the tentative deal on Thursday.
