Update: A wildfire that broke out Sunday about six kilometres north of Princeton, B.C. has spread to 180 hectares after it was fanned by strong winds overnight.
The fire is burning near Princeton Summerland Road.
“Dry grass, steep terrain and winds challenged fire suppression efforts. Today, over 30 firefighters and heavy equipment are creating guard around the fire to establish containment. They will be assisted by one helicopter and airtankers, as needed,” said a statement released by the B.C. Wildfire Branch.
Spokesperson Kayla Pepper says they suspect it was caused by people because there have been no recent lightning strikes in the area.
“Despite the temporary respite in weather conditions, the fire danger rating in many areas of the Kamloops Fire Centre remains ‘high.’ Warm, dry conditions are expected to continue over the next few days, which

Firfighters challenged by grass fire near the Princeton-Summerland Rd..
The blaze is about six kilometres north of the Town of Princeton being fought by local firefighters and the Ministry of Forest crews.
Kayla Pepper with BC Wildfire Control said the fire is currently estimated at 80 hectares in size.
About 20 people fighting the fire overnight. No injuries or damage to structure reported.
Water tankers fought fire until dark last night and set to resume action this morning.
