A request for proposal for Phase 2 of the Similkameen Valley Watershed Plan project was released in July. The work will include looking at water quantity, water quality and surface-groundwater interaction. The Board of Directors awarded the project to Summit Environmental Consultants Inc. in the amount of $87,050 plus applicable taxes.
Bylaw No. 2670, 2014, Electoral Area “D” Community Works (Gas Tax) Reserve Fund Expenditure was adopted by the Board of Directors. $30,000 of Gas Tax funding will be allocated to the Electoral Area “D-1” Official Community Plan review project. The project will look at infrastructure and groundwater capacity to make a direct connection between specific growth areas and provision of common services like water and sanitary sewer. The project will develop and strengthen relationships between existing water purveyors and the RDOS, determine the capacity of each water system, outline the growth potential and required system upgrading and will strengthen the ability of the RDOS to develop long term planning policies and practices.
The Board of Directors provided consent to the City of Penticton to supply first responder, fire suppression and prevention services to the Penticton Indian Band on parts of Electoral Area “D” and “F” of the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen.
The Regional District and the Town of Princeton have been working towards the transfer of ownership, management and operations of the Princeton Arena fully to the Town, with the Electoral Area “H” contributing towards the facility based on the use by Area “H” residents. Before the Board can adopt the bylaw it must receive approval from the Province and the Electoral Area voters. Electoral Area “H” Recreation Contribution Service Establishment Bylaw No. 2666, 2014 Alternative Approval process has opened and the deadline for submitting elector response forms is no later than 4:30 on October 20, 2014. The total number of eligible electors to which the alternative approval process applies is 1630 and the number of elector responses required to prevent the bylaw from proceeding without a referendum is 163.
