Sentencing for Michael McWhinnie, 67, will take place October 27 in Penticton Law Courts
McWhinnie faced charges of theft and fraud in relation to the loss of $40,000 from the Osoyoos Rural Fire Protection District but pled guilty.
He is a retired teacher and served as a trustee for the fire protection district for a number of years.
Most recently, his home in Osoyoos was destroyed by fire.

A preliminary hearing for Ryan Symington, 30, of Alberta is set over to September 10th in an attempt to get his lawyer to agree on a court date this year. He indicated he would prefer next year.
The case based on an incident on Osoyoos Lake in 2011. Charges by RCMP were not laid until this year.
Symington faces a charge of impaired driving ( in a power boat ) causing death in connection with an accident that claimed the life of Marco Corbin, 18, (pictured above)killed instantly while tubing on Osoyoos Lake August 16, 2011.
