Highlights from August 21 Regional Board meeting
Dr. Anna Warwick Sears, of the Okanagan Basin Water Board updated the Board of Directors on the Okanagan Basin Water Board’s activities. The Regional Board reaffirmed support upon mutual agreement with the Regional District of Central Okanagan and North Okanagan for the Okanagan Basin Water Board’s Water Management Program.
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen owns and operates the Naramata water system. Large portions of the watermain in the system are the original asbestos cement pipes from the late 1950’s and 1960’s, and are in need of replacement. The Regional Board received and approved the August 12, 2014 tender evaluation report and recommendations for the upgrade tender from True Consultants Ltd. The Regional Board awarded the Naramata Water system Arawana Road Watermain Upgrades project to Grizzly Excavating Ltd. in the amount of $620,970 plus applicable taxes.
In 2012 the RDOS purchased 1295 Green Lake Road, a parcel adjacent to Okanagan Falls Provincial Campground. The Board authorized the purchase of the property in June 2012 for the specific purpose of acquiring parkland in partnership with BC Parks, and the funds to purchase the property came from the RDOS Parkland dedication funds. The Province has now offered to purchase the property to complement and expand on Okanagan Falls Provincial Park. At the August 21 Board meeting the Board of Directors authorized the sale of the property to the Provincial of British Columbia.
The Regional Board has authorized Bylaw No. 2668, Electoral Area “H” Community Works (Gas Tax) Reserve Fund Expenditure Bylaw for the Tulameen Arena floor replacement and the Princeton Curling Rink chiller. The Tulameen Arena floor estimated cost is $113,850, and the project will be funded with $45,000 from Electoral Area “H” Community Works Reserve Fund and the remaining $68,850 from the Tulameen Community Club.
The estimated cost of the Princeton Curling Rink project is $45,000 with 1/3 funding coming from each of the Town of Princeton, Princeton Curling Club and Electoral Area “H”. The amount of up to $15,000 would be funded from the Electoral Area “H” Community Works (Gas Tax) Reserve Fund.
The Electoral Area “G” Community Parks Service Establishment Bylaw No. 2662 received three readings on June 5 and then received approval by the Inspector of Municipalities. Before the Board can adopt the bylaw it must receive approval from the Electoral Area voters. An alternative approval process begins August 21, 2014 and the deadline for submitting elector response forms is no later than 4:30 pm on October 6, 2014. Elector response forms can be obtained at the Regional District office or online at www.rdos.bc.ca. The total number of eligible electors to which the alternative approval process applies is 2029 and the number of elector responses required to prevent the bylaw from proceeding without a referendum is 203.
