
Regular Council Meeting August 25th – 8:15 pm
Delegations consisted of the out-going Oliver Ambassadors and our own BC Ambassador Juliana Martine. MLA Linda Larson, Director Allan Patton and Mayor Hovanes handed out certificates of appreciation and flowers and welcomed the new Ambassadors. Juliana Martine made a short speech thanking Council and the Town for its support and presented Council with BC Ambassador T-shirts.
A Water Twinning Project Completion Celebration will be held in the near future and an amount of $5,000 will be taken from the Water Fund to cover this cost. The Buchanan Road Source Development was officially ratified as detailed during the Committee Meeting. The Toasted Oak Alley Water and Sewer Replacement project received formal approval and once again Council note the importance of creating the minimum of disruption to the other businesses using the alley.
Council moved to defer a decision on the Megale property until October 14. If any new information is presented to Council by staff then a second Public Hearing must be convened. Council acknowledged that a larger venue must be found. The motion was carried.
The Permissive tax Exemption list totalling $133,167 for 2015 was presented for review and Council noted that the Rodeo Grounds should be deleted and that due to a temporary shut down of the Adventist School, that the Town would forgive the payment of $8,200 for 2015 but at the end of that year the school will be required to pay in 2016 unless it reopens. The list was approved as amended.
Once again the Town will cost share with Area ‘C’ and the School District for the November Municipal Elections.
It was decided that the Town’s cheque signing authority document should list only Department Heads and that a second signature can be easily provided by a Councillor should there not be a second Department available.
Staff were directed to report on the feasibility of relocating the Dog Pound to Public Works making the statement that it will be site specific to allow a Pound only on the PW site.
The Chamber of Commerce has requested space at Centennial Park for temporarily storing vehicles from October 8th to 16th for 20 delegates travelling to a Chamber hosted visit to China. Council gave its approval.
