The former Beaverlodge facility north of Oliver is abuzz with activity! In March 2013 Youth With a Mission Global Gateway relocated from West Kelowna to the South Okanagan. With volunteer staff coming from Korea, Samoa, Tonga, Australia, South Africa and all over the world, the site is truly a “Gateway to the Nations.” Currently ten adults and two families live and serve full time at the “base.” Two more families and six adults serve with the organization part time and live in the community.
Youth With A Mission is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. Also known as YWAM (pronounced “WHY-wham”), we unite in a common purpose to know God and to make Him known. YWAM Global Gateway is one of more than 1,100 locations in over 180 countries. Their focus is on serving other ministries both locally and abroad.

Training, mercy ministry, and evangelism are the three strands of YWAM ministries. These strands weave throughout all that YWAM Global Gateway does. Our Discipleship Training School (DTS), Organic Agri-nutritional Training School (OATS), Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), and English For Missions (EFM) programs are some of the many areas where staff, students and community members can come to grow and learn. The OATS program is particularly focused on mercy ministry as they work with organizations to share sustainable agriculture, nutrition, and natural medicine practices all over the world. Team Xtreme Warrior Force Okanagan is an evangelistic ministry which uses feats of strength and cultural dance to call out the warrior heart in all of us.

Last Saturday, August 9, Youth With a Mission Global Gateway hosted the Island Breeze Luau. This family friendly event raised funds for the organization to put towards the purchase of the Island Road property. It featured cultural music and dancing from the Pacific Islands presented by Island Breeze Alberta. There was a pig roast, ethnic food, and a silent auction. The Youth With a Mission Global Gateway family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who attended, made donations, or were otherwise involved in the event.
