The Regional Board adopted Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2457.12 which introduces vacation rentals as a permitted use at the Apex Alpine area as well as introduces a new set of general regulations pertaining to vacation rental uses.
The Regional Board is supporting carpool.ca services by allocating $1000 from the 2014 Climate Action budget. Carpool.ca is a business supported and funded by the Western Canadian communities to host, manage and coordinate the offering of carpool services in participating communities. The carpool service is available throughout the South Okanagan and offers a free service to match drivers with riders wishing to share a trip, with a focus on work and school commuting. The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen owns and operates the Naramata water system which distributes about 200 million litres* each year. In order to meet fire protection requirements additional fire hydrants are required in Naramata. Five hydrant locations have been identified. The Board of Directors has awarded the construction work for the Naramata Water System – Hydrant Installation project to Grizzly Excavating Ltd. in the amount of $72,500.
The Alternative Approval Process (AAP) for Mosquito Control Extended Services will begin August 8, 2014. Elector response forms must be submitted to the RDOS Manager of Legislative Services no later than 4:30 pm on September 22, 2014. Should the AAP be successful, the Regional Board will be free to adopted Bylaw 2658 which will ensure that all of Electoral Area “B” will be provided with the service of Mosquito Control.
