Rip Off Artist, Russell Work has been doing some new angling on Mimi Parent’s embroidery image, “Queen of the Fish”. The image above is an autostereogram. If you follow one or other of the directions below, you will see the image “pop” into three dimensions. You will see the various layers that have been constructed. A challenge for the artist, a challenge for some of his viewers too.
Check out the work of the other 8 rip off’s at the Quail’s Nest Art Centre on Airport Street tomorrow or Saturday from 9am to 3pm. The challenge is to have all projects finished by 3pm Saturday.
Instructions for viewing
One way to help the brain concentrate on divergence instead of focusing is put the nose very close to the screen. With the picture so close to their eyes, most people cannot focus on the picture. The brain may give up trying to move eye muscles in order to get a clear picture. If one slowly pulls the face away from the screen, while refraining from focusing or rotating eyes, at some point the brain will lock onto a pair of patterns
OR, the viewer may hold one finger between their eyes and move it slowly towards the picture, maintaining focus on the finger at all times, until they are correctly focused on the spot that will allow them to view the illusion.
Who said ODN was just a 2 dimensional work of art!
