Allan Patton will not be seeking re-election as Director of Rural Area ‘C’ Regional District Okanagan-Similkameen.
In a telephone conversation today Allan revealed that he has been considering making this decision since the last election; even to the extent of mentoring a possible candidate. “I will be sorry to leave because I found it exciting and interesting; I enjoyed it and I found working with the public a real pleasure; public opinion is extremely valuable!”
Allan went on to say: “I wanted to allow as much time as possible for good candidates to come forward and announce their candidacy. I believe it is important to have a turnover and I have been Director for 9 years. I have huge respect for the Board and since Area ‘C’ is the second biggest of the RDOS it is important to have a good person representing the residents.”
Words of advice to potential candidates! “This is a job which will consume a considerable amount of your time so expect to be very busy but be ethical and make decisions which allow you to sleep at night. Be prepared to do a ‘lotta’ homework like considering liability issues and lawyers opinions; this will be necessary to enable you to make quality decisions when voting during RDOS Board meetings.”
In closing, Allan reiterated his previous comment; “It has been a real pleasure”.
