1. Directors heard from two race groups interested in taking over the half iron races held in Oliver in the spring. One of the interested parties is Sarah Dixon – former partner in Outback Events.
2. Directors have instructed staff to contact Joe Dixon of Outback Events about an amount owing for rentals of facilities in 2014.
Over $2000 is owing according to Manager Carol Sheridan. The letter will state that if the owed money plus a deposit for 2015 is not received by August 15 – the reservation on park facilities could go to other interested parties.
Sheridan says the park facilities are rented out for about $4600 each year. A deposit for 2014 was made to allow the events to go forward June 1st.
Sheridan also told the directors no joint planning between Outback and OPRS was done this year “I was sweating bullets” until the event was over.
3. The directors also directed staff to work with RDOS officials on the establishment of a general reserve for all capital works. Apparently this is legal and can be done fairly quickly at the regional district. The existing function reserves would be maintained (5 of them) at a minimal level once that level is determined.
The general capital reserve would allow funds moving in and out of it without being connected to a specific fund – pool, parks, programs, arena or hall. This is something that has been at the discussion stage for six or more years.
