Highway to Healing was formed as a community project of the Rotary Club of Oliver and launched in November 2013, with the aim of assisting area families with travel/accommodation costs outside the Okanagan for their child requiring medical care not locally.
The project was created to answer a variety of needs including financial, assistance with transportation and more.
So far in 2014, Highway To Healing received two new requests for assistance and made several donations. They hope you never need them, but if you do, they want to be there for you.
With landmark events like the Michael Burgess Concert and the support of the community, Highway To Healing wants to build reserves and be ready to provide emergency aid immediately when crisis strikes.
Highway To Healing started off with a bang – receiving many personal and corporate donations. Thank you: Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Home and Road 13 Winery.
We received the support of local service clubs and other charities. including Oliver Rotary, Lions Club, Lioness Club, Catholic Women’s League, South Okanagan Women’s Hospital Auxiliary and the Women of Oliver for Women… and this is just the beginning.
They also want to particularly thank two people… first Michael Burgess, this was his idea, his offer, his enthusiasm to return to our community and give something back. Secondly, our Mayor Ron Hovanes, without whose recommendation and introduction this wouldn’t have happened.
