Here we are, almost mid July, and getting 30+ C weather in both Alberta and BC, how nice is that?
Nelly and I have been sitting outside in the gazebo with a beverage, reading and taking our suppers while enjoying our amazing out doors!
We have 20 meter spruce trees on the west side of the property that give us plenty of shade.
As a boy, I ate supper outside with Wally and Auntie Kay all summer long. We sat in the shade of one of the large Bing cherry trees. That tree was one of three strategically placed to give the house shade from the hot summer sun.
Another thing I did all summer was to sleep outside. There were few mosquitoes in those days due to the sprays so I did not get eaten alive. We would drag a mattress and a ground sheet onto the lawn, and secure in our bedding we would watch the satellites go over until we fell asleep.
Last year I tried sleeping outside while visiting in Oliver. Between the barking of dogs and things that go bump in the night, I slumbered all night. I had no tent and slept on the deck. It just wasn’t the same as it was 45 years ago.
It may be that sleeping outside in town and sleeping outside in the country are two different things. My accommodations are in town so I most likely will not be able to determine the difference.
As long as our weather is warm, I want to enjoy it as much as possible, for not too far off, we will be muttering about the white stuff(I don’t dare mention what that is).
