Camille Rivard-Sirois, Fisheries Biologist with the Okanagan Nation Alliance addressed the Regional Board with respect to the Okanagan River Restoration Initiative, Penticton Channel spawning platforms. The Board of Directors will be forwarding a letter of support to the Okanagan Nation Alliance with respect to the project.
The Regional District and the Town of Princeton have been working towards the transfer of ownership, management and operations of the Princeton Arena fully to the Town, with the Electoral Area “H” contributing towards the facility based on the use by Area “H” residents. Before the Board can adopt the bylaw it must receive approval from the Province and the Electoral Area voters. An alternative approval process will be conducted in coming months.
A service establishment bylaw is required to fund the operation and administration of the Frank Venables Theatre in Oliver. Before the Board can adopt the bylaw it must receive approval from the Province and the Electoral Area voters. A referendum will take place in conjunction with the 2014 General Local Elections.
The Regional Board has directed staff to investigate the feasibility of various options for regulating medical marijuana production facilities within the Regional District. Staff will be investigating facilities being located within a reasonable distance to emergency services, creating specific medical marijuana production facility development permit areas and guidelines for form and character, proof of compliance with Health Canada regulations, establishing incentives through fee reductions to encourage facilities to sit in areas which will reduce conflict, and to investigate prohibiting production facilities in zones that are not part of the ALR.
