A woman driver killed in a highway crash in Peachland appears to have crossed the centre line before the collision according to RCMP officers at the scene.

The 69-year-old Penticton woman was heading north on Highway 97 just after noon on Thursday, when Hyundai Santa Fe she was driving smashed head-on into a southbound tractor-trailer near Trepanier Bench Road.

Traffic was blocked in both directions along the two-lane section for several hours. A detour was used to get traffic around the accident scene.

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died after a motor vehicle incident in Peachland on June 26, 2014.

She is Barbara Lynn Garrett, aged 69, of Penticton.

Ms. Garrett was the driver and sole occupant of a car which was in collision with a semi-trailer on Highway 97 South about 300 metres south of Trepanier Bench Road in Peachland shortly after noon on June 26, 2014.
