Former Osoyoos Lawyer Michael Fitzwilliam Welsh of Mott Welsh & Associates was elected secretary/treasurer of the BC Branch – Canadian Bar Association at the 2014 annual general meeting held in Richmond.
Welsh is an established Penticton criminal lawyer – Okanagan trial and appellate litigator, mediator, legal writer, wine columnist and BC VQA wine judge.
“These are difficult times, especially throughout the interior from north to south, in more remote areas of our coast and into the Kootenays; areas that are facing lack of many resources, including judges, courthouses and court staff, and especially insufficient lawyers. I grew up in Summerland and I have practised in Vancouver, the Sunshine Coast and the south Okanagan in many areas of law. It has given me a perspective that encompasses life and a law practice in urban and rural areas. This task is one that will take time, and needs long-term planning and a leadership team to ensure follow through. I will help us reach out to all lawyers in this province.”
