BC Transit Transportation planner Adriana McMullen, says ridership on the South Okanagan Transit System has quadrupled 2013-2013.
The information comes as part of BC Transit’s Okanagan-Similkameen Transit Future Plan Update to be delivered to the Regional District this week. The Transit Future Plan is a 25-year plan that envisions what the transit system will look like, sets ridership targets and prioritizes future investment in the transit system.
During the public engagement portion of arecent study, to which more than 1,100 people from the region responded, BC Transit identified the following top five issues based on comments made:
◾Inter-Regional Connections – 24% (to/from Kelowna)
◾Regional Connections – 19% (to/from Penticton)
◾Improve accessibility and mobility for people with disabilities 13%
◾Local Connections – 11%
◾Vehicle Technology (wifi on buses, more comfortable buses, etc.) -10%
McMullen is scheduled to update the Regional District’s Community Services Committee Board with regard to the Transit Future Plan on June 19.
