$17,500 in scholarships from Enrichment Society

shiela pix of enrich22The new Southern Okanagan Secondary School will have an awards ceremony for its first graduating class June 24th.

The generosity of community service groups, businesses and families that provide scholarships and bursaries to many of these students is very impressive.  I am sure many parents, grandparents and family friends are pleasantly surprised at the number of students that receive financial help to further their post-secondary education.  It is something that should make our community very proud.

The Southern Okanagan Secondary School Enrichment Fund Society is one of the organizations that will be at the awards ceremony to present scholarships to deserving students.  This registered charity has been in existence since 1995 and the Directors of the Society are volunteers from our community, who utilize the professional administration Vancouver Foundation and the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan for the actual fund management.  We provide scholarships based on a secure endowment fund that will guarantee awards every year. The Board is committed to preserving and increasing the size of the capital endowment.  Earnings from the capital endowment are distributed annually as student awards.

This year we have committed a total of $17,500 to 23 deserving students enrolled at SOSS that wish to pursue post-secondary education.  Our primary fund raiser is the SOSS Enrichment Fund Society Golf Tournament, supported by Fairview Mountain Golf Course, members, and corporate sponsors. We also receive donations from class reunions, alumni, families, trusts and in memoriam gifts. Graduating students from Oliver and Okanagan Falls are given financial assistance from the Enrichment Fund Society showing that we believe in them and that we want to help them achieve their goals.
