Under the watchful eye of young native riders – a sod turning ceremony begins with smoke and drums and a welcome in the Okanagan language
Official sod turning Friday at Senkulmen Business Park north of Oliver. Okanagan Correctional Centre to be up and running in the late fall of 2016 with 1000 construction jobs promised in the building of a 378 cell facility. The budget was $200 million but the successful applicant Plenary Justice (PCL) will build it for $192.9 million.
The afternoon ceremony featured many VIP’s and BC Government officials including Attorney General Suzanne Anton whose ministry is supervising the project.
