Audited Financial Statements

The board received a report from Ken Carmichael of BDO Canada about the 2013 Audited Financial Statements. The ORL received a clean audit report and 2013 was consistent with previous years in the statement of financial position. The Board approved the 2013 Financial Statements as presented and approved BDO Canada as the financial auditor for 2014.

Summerland Building Committee Report

The subjects have now come off the two properties that ORL is purchasing for a new library building in Summerland. Tango Management Group has been hired as project manager. The Committee is currently reviewing shortlisted architectural firm candidates and an announcement of the successful candidate will be made in late May.

Summer Reading Club

Preparations are underway for a lot of “Funny Business” at ORL branches this July and August! Magicians, comics, cartoonists and clowns are among the special programs being offered to encourage kids to keep reading throughout the summer. Stop in at any branch to register for this free program. Summer Reading Club is sponsored in part by the Friends of the Library Groups across the region.

BC Library Trustee Association

Director Lisa Cameron of Lake Country will be representing the ORL at the upcoming BC Library Trustee Association conference. A “Lunch and Learn” will be held specifically for regional library trustees on the topics of board governance and education. More information on the BCLTA can be found at BCLTA.org.
