RDOS is doing the flyer and the mail out for Town of Oliver and Rural Area C
Changes in effect on Monday May 19 collection in Area C and on Thursday May 22 collection in the Town.
Highlights of changes
Home recycling collection (blue bag) will no longer accept plastic bags or books for recycling along with no glass jars or bottles and Styrofoam.
New that can be inserted in blue bag – clean and dry paper cups, ice cream boxes, tetra-pak containers, milk cartons, juice concentrate spiral cans and ‘Pringle’ style containers. Small caps and lids will also be accepted if removed from containers and placed alongside clean and dry plastic containers. Yes for empty aersol cans but no paint products.
Residents will be able to co-mingle acceptable materials at the curb or in their cart. At home, residents will be able to place all of their accepted recycling in clear blue bags or blue boxes.
Apartments in Oliver will continue to mix materials in the blue rolling carts or in other bins provided.
During hours of operation, residential recycling depots will have separate bins for recycling plastic bags, glass bottles and jars, white Styrofoam packaging and coloured Styrofoam packaging. Books will also be recycled for free at all Landfills within the RDOS.
The new rules can be complex but focus on what can’t be picked up first and then add the material that is new. That way it’s a learning process and you can minimize fines to your local authority for contaminated bags or containers.
