About 25 people have arrived in Oliver at Loose Bay to camp and set up for working orchards and fields. It is a bit early in the season. There is no water supply. But one is about to be installed.
RDOS Director Allan Patton:
“It’s a rush job but we still want to do this right. Now that there is the money available permits are in place and the logistics of ordering and receiving the materials are now the issue. We are working on that presently.
The approval of the funding from the RDOS is considered a contingency to start the water works immediately. We are still looking for donations from residents, farmers and community groups to assist us in achieving our financial targets.
Yes pickers are arriving and we are offering bottled water for sale at the campsite and commercial portable toilets. Showers are now available for a reasonable cost at the Parks and Recreation Pool facility as a temporary measure until the water is connected.”

Loose Bay Campsite – water supply
April 14th – Greg Norton of the Loose Bay Society told council that the existing water supply was being terminated but the society had a plan to bring water up the hill at Secrest to the campsite. Council agreed to help in supplying the water and getting permits if the infrastructure could be installed and approved.
Since that meeting the RDOS has agreed to use gas tax funds to complete the capital works. Area C Director Allan Patton appeared before council Monday and requested that a joint service be established so that operating costs could be shared with all town and rural water users.
May 12th – Council decided to give free water for the first year after installation of all pipes, pumps and other capital items and then sit down and review all costs of pumping and water supply to the campsite once the figures are known.
