1. Council heard a delegation from the SO Chamber of Commerce on the need for a shuttle to carry passengers from Osoyoos to Kelowna airport making stops along the way. The vision is for a private contractor to make 4 runs a day from Osoyoos and the same number returning to the south end of the valley – making stops along the way. Robert Lintell representing the Ground Transportation Committee told council that 4 carriers seem interested in providing such a service.
Lintell says he is asking municipalities and the Regional District for financial contributions to help with marketing. $50 thousand is the target.
Oliver is asked to contribute $5000 on a one time basis and council will consider that request.
2. Oliver-Osoyoos Search and Rescue asked for an received a grant in aid of $3273 to complete all the work around their new building at the airport on Cessna Street. This grant along with other monies received will help defray costs of underground wiring as that is a new requirement in that part of the community.
3. Jim Wyse made a presentation to council in the evening on the National Park and economic benefits if one were to be established in the South Okanagan Similkameen. Wyse who says he is a big supporter was not asking for concept approval but for help with getting back to talks at the bargaining table between the federal Parks Service and the Province of BC. Council thank Wyse for his informative presentation.
