AlleyCATS Alliance is currently caring for four mothers and their litters of kittens. Feline pregnancies started early this year due to early winter warming trends, and now feral colonies in the Okanagan Valley are teeming with kittens!
To try and prevent more unwanted kittens, The Alliance will host their second ever Assisted Spay & Neuter Clinic on Friday, May 16th 2014 in Penticton. Cat owners who are unable to afford the cost of spaying or neutering their pet are invited to fill out an application. Contact 250-488-2233 for more information.
“SNAP” program is funded in part by the generosity of local veterinarians, and in part by monies raised through various fundraisers and private donations. A contribution of $25 payable by cash only in advance, will be required from successful candidates. The deadline for application submissions is May 9th, 2014 and proof of income is required. Space is very limited and candidates will be selected by a panel based on their eligibility.
“We had such success with our inaugural program last year, and had such a great time doing it, it really was a no-brainer when it came to whether or not we were going to do it again this year,” said President December van den Berg. “Once we got the go-ahead from local veterinarians, we decided to run with it! Substantial funds will still be required to pay the balance, so donations are greatly appreciated.”
“Last year 31 cats from 23 families in Osoyoos, Oliver, Keremeos, Penticton & Summerland were spayed & neutered! We also had several cats go through the program who ended up needing urgent medical care for a variety of issues, and we were extremely happy to be able to provide that for them as well.”
