“This is phenomenal news for the City of Penticton and entire South Okanagan region,” said Penticton Mayor Garry Litke. “There has been an overwhelming demand in the South Okanagan for increased air service to Alberta.
Much of the economy of the South Okanagan is tied to eastern destinations, and more efficient connections to Alberta and central Canada have been in demand throughout the region. The South Okanagan’s strong custom manufacturing sector serves the world, and its Canadian market is concentrated in northern Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The new eastern flight will reduce the time required to get to Calgary by at least two hours, making it faster for business travellers or oil-patch workers to return home.
The Penticton Regional Airport (YYF) was selected by the Calgary-based airline as part of its regional carrier expansion program. Non-stop service on Bombardier Q400 NextGen planes will touch down in Penticton starting Oct. 26, 2014.
