Support End-of-life Care at Annual Hike for Hospice
Whether you are a jogger, a walker, a rambler or a wanderer, mark your calendar for the 8th annual Hike for Hospice coming up May 4th, 2014. Hosted by Desert Valley Hospice Society (DVHS) in partnership with Interior Savings Credit Union, the Hike raises funds to support people living with life-limiting illness and their loved ones. 100 per cent of every dollar earned at the hike stays right here, helping DVHS continue to provide compassionate care to those facing end-of-life in Oliver and Osoyoos.
“Our annual Hike for Hospice is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year and, just as importantly, a time to support, celebrate, recognize and share what Desert Valley Hospice Society is doing for those facing end-of-life in our communities,” says DVHS President, Janet Shaw. “Each year, we are honoured and inspired by the commitment and generosity Oliver and Osoyoos residents show to this event.”
Gather a team of friends and family, challenge your co-workers or join as an individual to help support end-of-life care in your community. Pledge forms are available at the Interior Savings Credit Unions in OK Falls, Oliver and Osoyoos; Beyond Bliss in Oliver, and Office Pro in Osoyoos. Participants who do not collect pledges may register for the walk / run on the day of the event for $10. Registration begins at Oliver Lions Park at 12:00 pm; the 1, 5 or 10 km walk / run begins at 1:00 pm. The route is accessible for all ages and abilities.
This year, DVHS is pleased to be hosting a shuttle bus to transport Osoyoos participants to the Hike. This shuttle is free-of-charge and will leave the Sun Bowl arena at 11:00 am. Please call 250 689 DVHS to reserve your seats.
Each year, the Hike for Hospice kicks off Hospice Palliative Care Week, a national initiative that raises awareness of hospice palliative care in Canada. Similar hikes take place on the first Sunday of May in communities across Canada.
