Gerard Zandee
1931 – 2014
On March 26th our Lord called our Dad and Opa, Gerard Zandee, home into his loving arms and to be re-united with Corrie. He passed away at 8:25 pm surrounded by family and friend after courageously fighting kidney failure for over 7 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his family including his daughter, Lia (Bob) Pinske; granddaughters Kimberly (Licinio) & Bryenna. Son Robert (Tracy) Zandee, grandson Gavin. One brother Jan in Holland, and many nieces and nephews in Holland and Dick (Lynn) Zandee in Sooke, B.C.
Gerard was born in Biezelinge , Holland on April 20, 1931 to Dignus & Cornelia Zandee. After a 3 year sojourn in the Dutch army, he and Corrie were married and in 1958 came to Canada with 14 month old Lia. On arrival they went to work on the Albert Murphy orchard, 6 miles south of Oliver. In 1962 he worked for Rotheisler Equipment and one year later he began a partnership with Tom Snoek, forming T & Z Imperial Motors where the rental centre is now. In 1973 he and Corrie formed Gerard’s Equipment Ltd. He worked there until his kidneys required dialysis and his strength waned.
Gerard was very active in Valley Congregational Church, helping to build the actual building. He participated in Bible Studies, Building committee and Maintenance committee as well as being a member of the Choir. He together with Corrie started the first Home Shows here in Oliver. He travelled extensively through Canada, United States and Europe. He loved to talk to anyone who would listen especially his customers. His memory will live in our hearts and everyone who knew him forever. A celebration of life will celebrated on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, 1:30 pm, at Valley Congregational Church on Black Sage Road.
A reception hosted by the ladies will follow the service. Burial will follow the reception at the Oliver Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to the Desert Valley Hospice Society, PO Box 1261, Oliver, BC, V0H 1T0
