Decisions and Discussion at Town of Oliver Council meeting – Monday March 10th
1. Water season set to begin in April – with water diverted from river into canal April 1st with farmer use 10 days later
2. Two youth hockey teams received $500 each to help defray cost of travel to provincial tournaments.
Midgets play in 100 Mile House – ages 15-17. Pee Wees play in Nelson – ages 11-12. Council granted the request on a one time basis. The teams had little time to raise funds but have held bottle drives, hot dog sales and carried groceries for shoppers at local supermarkets to defray costs.
3. Council has authorized the expenditure of up to $44,500 for underground wiring ( power and communications ) on Airport Street for a new ten bay hangar and future development on the south-west corner of the aerodrome.
4. Councillors gave instructions to staff to begin concept plans for parkland in the School Ave, Gala Street and Fairview Road area including the possibility of a round-a-bout at Spartan and Fairview. Park plans would include effluent-irrigated path ways north of School Ave on Gala. Parking lot/park – south east of the new theatre and treatments on sidewalks in front of the Frank Venables Theatre. Changes designed to enhance safety, elimination of barren land eye sores and completing the beautification of the Fairview – Gala – Spartan corners adjacent to newly constructed High School.
5. Contract authorized for Grant Smith, Waterhouse Executive Search to assist with the hiring of new Manager for the Town.
6. Mayor Hovanes said the School and Town cooperating on a possible Bandai trip for a group of students at the end of June. No firm details established.

8. Town will write letter as requested by SO Immigrant Community Services in support of a funding application to the Law Foundation of BC. The application is to obtain funds for assistance to Temporary Foreign Workers – during their stay in Canada.
