New Democratic Party members of the new federal Electoral District (ED) of South Okanagan – West Kootenay (SO-WK) will meet in Osoyoos on March 15 for the founding of the NDP federal riding association.
SO-WK is one of 6 new EDs established in B.C. by Elections Canada this year. It is made up of parts of the former British Columbia Southern Interior and Okanagan – Coquihalla ridings. It stretches from Burton on the upper Arrow Lakes in the northeast to Penticton and Osoyoos in the southwest. We are excited about our new riding and are looking forward to working together to send a NDP member to Parliament in Ottawa after the 2015 election.
At the founding meeting we will be adopting a constitution, electing an executive and a establishing a candidate search committee.
The current Member-of-Parliament for BCSI, Alex Atamanenko, has announced that he will not be running in 2015. He, along with all the current MPs, will continue to represent their present EDs until the 2015 election.
The meeting will be on Saturday, March 15 at 1:30 PM (doors open at 12:45) at the Sonora Centre in Osoyoos. It is open to all NDP members Alex Atamanenko will be in attendance.
