Press Picture to make it bigger
One of the more fun leagues at the Eastlink Curling Centre over the past few years has been the Corporate League. It is made up of teams from local businesses and from local organizations, and is made up of curlers new to the sport wanting to learn how to play in a ‘relatively’ non competitive environment. This past season, there has been 9 teams competing and the crunch has now arrived with the top four teams playing off on Monday, March 10, for the coveted Eastlink Trophy. The Town of Oliver won it the first year, Parks and Rec won it last year, and this year it looks to be headed for the team that actually looks like a team – Super Valu.
Playoffs start with the top 4 teams playing on Monday starting at 7 pm. Super Valu will take on NkMip golf course and the winner of that will take on the winner of Parks and Rec and Constellation Brands. Each game will be only 4 ends, so the whole affair will be decided by the end of the night. If past games are any indication, it will be an exciting affair – sort of similar to BC’s Jim Cotter winning the Brier.
The other 5 teams will also be playing on Monday night – Eastlink, Munckhof Manufacturing, Gerard’s Equipment, Edward Jones, and the Teachers. Although not in the top four in the overall standings, they are definitely in the top group in regards to having a good time.
Spectators are always welcome. And new teams for next year are always welcome. If interested, contact Dale Dodge at 498 4014. Curling is a great way to help pass a cold winter night.
