Representatives from the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen will host a meeting on March 11 in Oliver to discuss issues arising from a proposed clean-up of signage along Highway 97 between Oliver and Osoyoos – U.S. border.
“This meeting will focus on signage situated on properties along the Hwy. 97 corridor south of Oliver,” said Donna Butler, Development Services Manager.
The public meeting, to be held at the Oliver Community Centre between 4 and 7 p.m., will provide and opportunity for business owners and residents to express opinions about the proposed signage clean-up. ”Information we receive at this public meeting will be returned to the Regional District for additional consideration,” said Butler.
Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure staff are also expected to be in attendance.
The Regional District sign bylaw requires signage advertising a business use be located on the property where the business is situated and allows for up to two signs to advertise a commercial use. The bylaw also allows residential and farm property owners to erect one sign on a property to:
Indicate a home occupation, industry or bed and breakfast operation;
Identify the property owner;
Advertise the sale of produce, livestock or product grown or produced on the farm;
Advertise the sale or rental of the property or a building located on the property.
Additional regulations provide for signage size, material and illumination.
