Wednesday – The Hornets will now travel to Clarence Fulton in Vernon to play in the valley championships on Thursday. The team is now 19-9 overall and are currently riding a 6 game winning streak as they head into the valleys.
Thursday – Hornets moved one step closer to the provincial tonight as they extended their winning streak to 6 games with a solid 99-77 victory over kalamalka of Vernon. Malcolm Malcolm Heinrichs led the team with 38 points followed by Gurk Dhaliwal with 32. The hornets will now face westsyde of kamloops in the semi final. Looking for lucky number 7. A win tomorrow night guarantees the hornets their 7th provincial appearance in row.
No matter how you cut it a team is only a team because of the hard effort of everyone from #1 to #14. Without the effort of the role players how can the starters get better, how can they learn to execute and push themselves. The bench does not get the credit they deserve, but they must know how appreciated they are by the coach cause they are. Stay strong, stay committed and you will be rewarded.
Friday – The hornets advanced to the valley final tomorrow night for the 6th straight year, as they defeated westsyde #4 ranked team in the province 74-66. It was a great team effort with the hornets getting quality minutes from the likes of Gopinder Sandhu, Brayden Mulhern, Blake Blake Miller Yuckin, and Raj Bahniwal who scored 11 points. The team was led by Gurk Dhaliwal with 29 points, Gurk hit a huge three late to push the lead to 6. Malcolm Malcolm Heinrichs added 18 points in the win. The team is going for its 4th valley championship in 6 years as they play #8 ranked valley view of kamloops in the final.
The hornets were unble to seal the deal tonight as they lost in the final to valley view 71-69. Our last second shot to win rimmed out. The hornets will learn of their schedule tomorrow for the provincials and I will post it here. Malcolm Heinrichs, and Gurk Dhaliwal were named tournament all stars, way to go boys. The team will need to re focus this next week, our goal is still doable but it will take some serious determination and commitment.
