Only Two Years Are Missing
The Oliver and District Heritage Society (ODHS) is actively on the look-out for two South Okanagan Secondary School annuals to fill an existing gap in its high school year book collection according to Society Collections Manager Bryonie Mahé.
“Fortunately the school has been able to assemble a full collection” she explained “but for safe measure we’d like to have two complete sets in the community. The years missing in our own collection which is housed in the Oliver Archives are the years 1944-1945 and 1952-1953. We’d like to change that.”
The production of a school annual at SOSS began in 1943 spanning 70 years of history for both students and the community. “Because they are a record of people and events in our history, these year books are highly prized not only as a valuable historic resource but as a research tool.”
Donations from many community members throughout the years have been supported by targeted collecting and provided the Society with this almost complete collection of SOSS annuals. She noted that the annuals are available to the public for viewing on a year round basis during regular Archives hours.
Anyone interested in donating an annual for the years 1944-45 and 1952-53 or able to assist in identifying who might have a copy can contact the Archives at 250-498-4027 or at info@oliverheritage.ca.
