On February 14, at 1AM long time Oliver resident Otto Hess passed away peacefully in McKinney Place with his grandaughter at his side.
Otto was well known in the Oliver area, often seen driving his red Volkswagon Beetle.
Otto was born in 1919 at a German settlement in Borodino, Bessarabia, and came to Canada as a boy of 7.
He was raised on a farm in northern Alberta, and settled in Oliver in 1955. He was a stucco and plastering contractor for 33 years in this area. He was a member of the Adventist Church and enjoyed cultivating a fruit orchard and garden.
Otto’s death was preceded by that of his wife Yvonne, and daughter Gailene. He is survived by his sons Gerry and Randall Hess, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his many brothers and sisters and their extended families.
Service at 11am – Seventh Day Adventist Church on Thursday February 20th – instead of at Graham Funeral home. A meal will be served there after the graveside interment.
