Calls to 911 got the adrenalin going this morning when a large hot blaze was set on fire in the Gallagher Lake area.
First report was that dark black smoke and flames spotted above the roof tops but ultimately it was determined to be a burn pile in a remote area closer to the river.
Land owner Swaranjit Chahal said the black smoke might have been caused by wet wood but he asserted that it was all lumber and construction material.
This was the third call today for firemen as it is a perfect venting day and there is smoke and blazes visible from the highway along the river and on the east bench.
Fire Chief Dan Skaros attended this particular fire and asked that anyone setting up a burn pile or controlled burn to phone him at 250-498-9195. That helps in preventing unnecessary callouts for firemen at their regular jobs.
