Field Trips and Graduation
Education Committee is recommending a number of field trips later this year – three in connection with Graduation and one a special trip for 20 SOSS students to a sailing and life training society course ( a week on a tall ship ) in the Gulf Islands. The sailing field trip will be held April 21 to 25th.
Grad field trips cost $230 per student, the SALT tall ship trip will cost $750 for each pupil attending.
Osoyoos Secondary students will go to Vancouver June 6 and 7th. Keremeos and Oliver students will go to Silverwood Idaho June 26 and 27th getting together on a number of venues and times.
SESS Keremeos Graduation will beĀ held Thursday June 26 – the same day as Osoyoos and Oliver. Trustees will have to scramble to even attend one of the events because of busy calendars. SOSS’s bursary awards night is on Tuesday of that week June 24.
School Calendar – District staff still collecting survey results and feedback on a proposed new calendar for next education year that would include 2 Pro D days. All info should be compiled by February 28th but the Board will not decided until the March meeting of trustees.
Inquiry Time – the system of collaboration of administrators and teachers is continuing in the district and will be reviewed. The board committee has agreed to “Sharing Day” May 28 at the Watermark in Osoyoos so that representatives of all district schools can meet, discuss and move forward initiatives and innovative practices. The district is committed to the review at the end of the year but wants to continue for at least three years to allow time for this new collaboration to work.
