Obituary for the late James (Jim) Arthur Caldwell 1938 – 2014
On Friday January 24, 2014, Mr. James (Jim) Arthur Caldwell of Oliver passed away after a long illness at the South Okanagan General Hospital at the age of 75 years.
He was predeceased by his mother and father Mary & Borden Caldwell; brother Jack Caldwell; and sisters Marie Dellaire, Joanne Yackobeck and Darlene Kennelly.
Jim will be fondly remembered by his loving family including his wife of 49 years Daisy; son Ron (Lonna) Caldwell; daughter Nancy (Jim) Horkoff; grandson Tory Caldwell; granddaughters Merissa Horkoff, Sara (Tom) Olsen and Talisa Caldwell; sister Elsie (Jim) Dellaire, sister Shirley (Ambrose) Limlaw, brother Bordon (Lyn) Caldwell, sister Patsy (Leo) Derion, bother Danny (Bev) Caldwell, brother Cyril Caldwell; brother David Caldwell as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Jim was born Renfrew, ON and served in the Canadian Army from 1956 – 1962 and served three years in Germany. He worked as a welder for 32 years at General Coach and drove truck in High Level, Alberta.
Jim was always very active in the community. He was an active member of the Oliver Fire Department for fourteen years, the Oliver Sharks swim club and the Oliver Figure Skating Club. Jim also had a passion for hockey and served with Oliver Minor Hockey during the 1970’s and then returned as a lifelong fan watching minor hockey and junior hockey. He also volunteered helping out the Oliver Lions Club. Jim was very active in square dancing where he and Daisy competed in square dancing national jamborees as far away as Vancouver, Edmonton and Winnipeg.
Jim and Daisy also served on the BC Square Dancing jamboree executive for many years. Jim also loved camping with Daisy and their two dogs.
A celebration reception will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday February 15, 2014 at the Oliver Royal Canadian Legion upper hall.
